Got great assistance here when looking for a TW trainer last time. Ashlyn, 3rd Branch Ranch, is wonderful. Now looking for a farrier in the Big Rapids - Mt Pleasant area for gaited horses who are barefoot. Thanks folks

Has anyone been on Osmund or Black River Rd? Are they washboards or pretty good to haul a rig on?
Thanks

Was up there last weekend on Osmun from Elk Hill to M-68. It was not bad as it usually is, but still rough. It had rained alot and sides of road were washed full of sand and soft. Rain made it a little smoother than normal.

After the resignations of two members of the Board of Directors, the remaining Board members met at the Elk Hill Work Bee last weekend and appointed Carol Hyzer and Pat Galloup to sit on the Board as replacements until the next election in March 2011. Thanks so much to Carol and Pat for stepping up to help out the organization. Your additions are valuable and greatly appreciated. And, special thanks goes to Jeff Sawyer and Jack Heaton for their years of dedication to the MTRA.

Carol 938 Tuesday, August 24, 2010 01:37 PM

Thats's not true but there are concerns by the locals about manure on the streets. Al Davis knows more about this.
Al has been out of town so he is not available to discuss this issue with you.

There is a sign as you approach M-72 on the trail that sums up what the requirements are to access the water. Basically, clean up after your horse. Remember, what you and your horse do, reflects on the MTRA. The locals don't know if you are on a sanctioned ride, or are by yourself. They just know you were on a horse and such and such took place. Please remember, everyone, your actions could put access to the water on both sides of the state in jeopardy for everyone.

I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve on the executive board until elections this winter. I want to thank Carol for going out with me again to finish the cleanup of the trail between Luzerne and 4 mile. I have been up to Goose Creek a couple of times and will have double checked that trail before the September Ride. Thanks to all you that were at the Elk Hill work bee it was very well organized and I had a great time. Please let me know if there is anything that needs to be done or of any issues that you may have.

Thanks,
Pat Galloup

(4676) Work at Elk Hill was a great success.
Great deal was accomplished. old posts were pulled. old holes were filled. new holes were dug (by Joe Burrill with a rented bobcat and auger). New poles were put in place by Chuck Fanslow and Gary Randall with their fine personal tractors. Each fence hole was filled with gravel provided by the DNR.
Norm Seppi and Richard Kleinhardt trimmed trees. Bonnie Scott and Helen Meier operated a chipper. Terry Meier and young Gary Randall operated long tree trimers. Larry Kleinhardt and several other people operating tractors.
Other people moved branches and shovels.
It is amazing what this club can accomplish!!!!
Connie Kleinhardt prepared a breakfast fit for kings.
Betty Randall supervised a lunch for all the hungry workers of hot dog hamburgers beans and potaote salad It was so good.....
The weather was sticky and hot. The workers were careful and no one got injured seriously although some were bleeding here and there!
I was proud to see both MTRA and BAck Country Horsemen working together.
The DNRE will have to know that we are committed to this camp ground.

Thanks Carol for the great report about the Work-Bee at Elk Hill. What a GREAT face lift the camp received. The joint efforts of the Back Country Horsemen, The Alpena Horse Club and the MTRA members made a big improvement in the camp.
What GREAT friends and memories we made this weekend. We were really blessed that we only had two hours of rain to work in Friday morning.
THANKS SO MUCH to everyone that showed up and put their heart and soul into working so hard. wink
HAPPY TRAILS,
Garry, President MTRA

Kudos to Carol as well....I would like to make a correction to your post though. I did not prepare breakfast alone-Marieta Davis and Sandy Seppi were the masterminds behind the feast! I merely did buttermilk pancakes and coffee...that was the easy part! Again Teamwork produced marvelous results...Thanks to Terry Meier for his culinary expertise with his cinnamon pancakes and hashbrowns, Sandy Seppi with her made to order eggs, scrambled and over easy made with Julie Rescoe's home grown chicken eggs-a very special treat. Then to top it off with LOTS of sausage patties and links donated by Deanna Stamp and fresh melon from Gordon and Marieta's garden-a super treat! Special thanks to all those who donated what was needed to feed our crew-we were so blessed with such an abundance of food from what Betty had prepared and from our group that we had enough to feed everyone again on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Can't forget to thank Pat Stinson, Judy Kleinhardt, Deanna Stamp, Julie Rescoe and Laura Marsh for helping with setup and cleanup-very important part of the team! Many hands make light work... smile Hope we didn't forget anyone.

What exactly do you mean by "jump on the trail"--a spot to park a trailer and begin riding, camping spot along the trail, east of Kalkaska, west of Kalkaska, are you joining a MTRA ride, exploring on your own.....?? confused

I know alot of people park their rigs off supply road, where the trail crosses and ride either way. There is a good spot there.
